Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone Optimization is offered to patients as part of Meliora Integrative Medicine’s Five-Point Restorative Approach and Hormone Optimization Therapy.

Thyroid Hormone Replacement Therapy

Your main thyroid hormones are T4 and T3. T4, the inactive form, is made directly by your thyroid gland. T3, the active form, is converted from T4 and attaches to receptors to elicit a response. Essential minerals such as iron, iodine, zinc and selenium are needed to convert T4 to T3.
There are many forms of thyroid hormone replacement. Synthetic forms contain either T4 or T3 and include Synthroid, Levothyroxine, Cytomel and Liothyronine. Bioidentical forms contain BOTH T4 and T3 and include Armour thyroid, Nature-Throid, Dessicated thyroid.

The two most common conditions affecting your thyroid are Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

Hypothyroidism, also called underactive thyroid or low thyroid, is a disorder in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition where your immune system produces proteins that can block the normal functioning of your thyroid.

Thyroid imbalance may also lead to cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis and female infertility.

To determine if Thyroid Replacement Therapy is right for you:

  • We discuss your symptoms and issues
  • We perform a comprehensive laboratory test looking at a full panel of your hormone levels
